Geocache Description:

This cache is a contribution to the Book Nook of favorite authors founded by Box of Treasures. The six other Nook caches, so far, are Almost ... Room With A View (GC1R5D6), Thesiger (GC1R5FY), Wilbur Smith (GC1R5HY), J.D. Salinger (GC2HB8W), Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn (GC2HQ6D) and Alan Paton (GC2HTMT). All are on or near the Robert Frost and Walt Whitman trails.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (22 May 1859 – 7 July 1930) was a Scottish physician and writer, most noted for his stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes, which are generally considered a major innovation in the field of crime fiction.

This multi-cache is just two stages: stage one, which provides the clue for the coordinates of stage two, and stage two, the final stage. The clue requires that you recall a three-digit number that is frequently stated in the Sherlock Holmes mysteries, starting with “A Study in Scarlet,” which was the first story to feature the character of Sherlock Holmes. There is a fashioned FTF token for the first to find the final cache.

The two caches are in woods bordering the Robert Frost Trail. Parking on Pratt Corner Road, Shutesbury at N42 24.778 W072 28.658. Take trail towards Amethyst Brook. A 400’ walk on the trail from the parking area brings you to a trail intersection at N42 24.700 W072 28.648. Turn left to continue on the RF trail, which is blazed with yellow diamonds. Distance from trail intersection to 1st cache: 0.22 mi. From 1st to 2nd cache: 0.13 mi.
