[E]: quick Cache near the River Danube bicycle route. Pöchlarn is a small town situated on the bank of the Danube in Lower Austria. It is one of the eldest towns in Austria and looks back on a monumental history.

[E]: The myth of the Nibelungs – an epos of heroes from the 12th century How the visit to Bechelaren came about The margrave went to his lady. His wife was together with his daughter. He told them the joyful message he had got: Mistress Kriemhild’s brothers would visit them in their house. The „Monument of the Nibelungs“ was built in 1987. The monument shows 16 coat of arms of places mentioned in the myth of the Nibelungs. This legend also tells about a margrave called „Rüdiger of Bechelaren“ (Pöchlarn’s name in the middle ages) and his hospitality. To keep up the tradition of the Nibelungs in Pöchlarn, an international symposium takes place here every two years. The „Monument of the Nibelungs“ was formed by the artist Heinz Knapp and it is a symbol for peace in Europe.
