Another in a series taking you to soccer venues around the Metro Area. This time you're looking for a nano. You could stand here and watch an entire game if you wanted. Sunday 11/14/10 @ 1pm this area is going to be packed as the Portland Pilots Women's Team plays UW in the 2nd round of the NCAA playoffs (they beat Univ of Texas - San Antonio Friday night 9-0), best not to search for this then.
The University of Portland Pilots soccer teams are consistently around the top of the national rankings. Clive Charles built the program into a powerhouse while he was Director of Soccer from 1986-2003, and they have continued that momentum and succes ever since.
The Women's team has an all-time record of 441-131-40 (.753), won 2 NCAA National Championships (2002 & 2005), made it to 8 College Cups (essentially the final 4 for NCAA soccer tournament), and have 12 WCC championships including 2010. They regularly send players to the Olympics and World Cup to play for their national teams.
The Men's team also has a history of success, its most recognizable alum is Kasey Keller who is the starting goalkeeper for the US National Team. The Pilot men have won 6 WCC titles and regularly make it to the NCAA tournament.
