From the cache you can see the original homestead of the estate. Best place to park would be at the sports oval. Kids can play in the park or watch a local sport. Take a walk up the path to the cache. You will need to head just off the path when you get close.
Harrington Park, as we know it today, began in 1944 as a dream. Sir Warwick Fairfax, who lived on and loved the land, envisioned a magnificent estate. Harrington Park recognised nationally for its planning and design, winning multiple awards.
This dream laid a firm foundation for the estate as we know it today, which was brought to life by the hard work of Lady Mary Fairfax and the Harrington Park Development Team even after the death of Sir Warwick.
Stretching back to the colonial era, Harrington Park comprises some of the earliest land grants in Australia. Harrington Park’s rich history is typified in the two old homesteads on its grounds – Harrington Park Homestead and Orielton Homestead.
Both homesteads span a long history, having housed the gentry, military and farmers alike. Harrington Park Homestead is particularly remembered for having been the seat of the Fairfax family's holiday home, particularly loved by Sir Warwick Fairfax, who wrote some of his greatest books on its premises.
In December 2006, the NSW Minister for Planning, the Hon. Frank Sartor, visited Harrington Park to honour both homesteads with NSW State Heritage Listings. The listings recognise the historical value of the properties and ensure their preservation for future generations.
