Geocache Description:

An addition to the Lake Onslow Series.

The stockyards very close to this cache site are on a property owned for some years and then sold by my friend, Harold. They were built by his fair, if somewhat grubby, hands.

They are a good example of what versatile people farmers, generally, are. His property "Wainui" was in two parts. The lower part extended up to here, the cache site, from lower down on the Tima Burn Road. This lower portion was about 1200 acres in area.

The upper part, his "run" country, covered an area bounded, basically, by a line running north of Mt Teviot across to the Teviot River. From that point east to the North Branch of the Teviot River and, from there, skirted the north western shores of Lake Onslow around, and including the area where the fishermen's huts are. From there up Lake Onslow Road back to Mt Teviot thus closing the polygon.

The "Wainui Run" image attached to this page shows the area and covers something close to 7,800 acres.

Harold is a very keen fisherman and regards Lake Onslow as "his patch" hence self styles himself as "The Mayor of Lake Onslow" !
