Geocache Description:

This cache will be the first in a series of caches placed in loving memory of our dear friend Mahito Shirako, who left us far too soon November 7th, 2010.

In Mahito's Memory #1
June 25, 1979 - November 7, 2010

Mahito lived life full blast with the throttle wide open, and was quite simply the kindest, most gentle spirit we have ever known. He was a man who was always there to help a friend and stranger alike, an avid motorcyclist and black belt in Tae Kwon Do, who loved photography, theatre and the outdoors and did everything he could to be out in it as often as possible.

The cache is a camo'ed lock and lock box placed in the area behind his house where more than 800 of us celebrated his life to the fullest on November 13th. It is placed in an area where you can watch the sun greet the day over the Salinas Valley, and count the stars in the night sky with a clear and unfettered view. He loved it here.

The original items in the box include:

- Seashell (to commemorate his love of the outdoors)
- Golf ball (one story shared at his Celebration included 6 dozen golf balls imbedded in a dorm room wall ... that's all I'll say there! :)
- Handbill from his Celebration of Life on 11/13/10.
- Coaster from one of his favorite breweries (who coincidentally celebrates their 30th Anniversary the week after he passed on)
- 2 pens
- Cache log
-2 Sierra Nevada keychains as trade items (my "signature goodie").

If you knew him, please feel free to leave anything that will fit that makes you think of him or how he enjoyed spending his time (but please write down what they are in your online log/field notes so that others don't take them as trade items). There is also plenty of room for geocoins, travel bugs or other small trade items.

HOYA!!!
