Chappies Hidden Forest
This is a delightful, forested little spot only about 10 mins from the car park and would be a welcome respite for a cool picnic on a hot summer's day. There is plenty of place for a picnic just nearby the falls in the picture. Further down the Chapmans Peak road there is another small stream signposted 'Klein Watervalletjie'. However this stream, running down Blackburn Kloof, is much larger and the waterfall can be quite significant - especially after periods of high rainfall. A check of local maps does not reveal a name for the stream. Indications are that it flows all year round, but in periods of low flow does not gush over the rock face as in the top photo.
To make your way to the cache location, follow the track on the left for a short distance until you are able to cross the stream to pick up a trail passing up through the woods on the right bank. Then when closer to GZ make your way down a steep (but manageable) slope to cross the stream back onto the left bank and continue up to GZ.
The cache itself is about 10m before and to the left of the falls as you stand facing the mountain. GPS signal is unreliable here with accuracy of only ~7 metres. So make good use of the location description and hint.
Near the falls you may spot a unique stone wedged high up in a tree - the cache guardian casting his all-seeing eye over the scene . . . Have fun but take care as some of the rocks are slippery!
Note: the trail is obviously used by others as there is evidence in the form of a couple of areas where fires have been made, and the occasional litter and deposit.
