Geocache Description:

The cache is located in Paul M. Grist State Park near Selma, Alabama. There is a $2.00 per person entrance fee. The park is open from 7:00 am to Dark. The cache is hidden in the woods just off of trails that run through the park. Parking is allowed ONLY in designated parking areas. No parking along the road is allowed. The cache is placed with permission from the Park and has the required permit. Geocaching is allowed by the State of Alabama Park system and you need to obey all of the park rules and regulations of the park.

Tranquility prevails in this beautiful 1,080-acre park as visitors enjoy the relaxing atmosphere around the park's 100-acre lake. Recreational opportunities include swimming, fishing, boating, picnicking, hiking and camping.

Located on the 100-acre lake, the campground provides 11 RV sites with sewer, water, and 50 amp. service. A bathhouse is located nearby that is ADA accessible. The bathhouse is cleaned daily. Primitive camping sites are also available

Paul M. Grist Park's day-use picnic facilities include a large picnic pavilion, serveral picnic tables, a beach swimming area, paddle boat rentals, large open playing fields and ample shoreline for bank fishing.

Rental boats are available for your enjoyment. Must be 16 years or older to rent a boat. Each person in boat must have a Coast Guard Approved Life Jacket. Children under the age of 8 must wear life jacket at all times. Boats not allowed in swimming area. No swimming from boats.

There are a number of caches located in the park and some might say it is a power trail. Most hides are located along a trail but the only method of getting to them is walking (almost all, but some will take a boat). There are a variety of sizes (from bison tubes to 5 gallon buckets), difficulties and terrains. The trails are several feet wide and should be easy to follow. There is some change in elevations that have the terrains rated as they are. The trail around the lake is just less than 4 miles and will take about 2½ hours just walking it. There are some other trails as well. The accuracy of the GPS varied from 10 to 20 feet, depending upon the tree cover and cloud cover when the hides were placed.

If you enjoy time in the woods looking for caches that might take some time to find then this would be the place to come to. If you want P&Gs or quick numbers, you will not find it here. Most of the hides have trade items, others only have logs, so BYOP. Hope you enjoy this magnificent park and geocaching , as much as I have enjoyed the park and placing caches within this beautiful place demonstrating God’s handy work. What a beautiful and mysterious place God has created to place these hides. Happy Hunting. (God is watching and He is “Smiling”)

Congratulations to oldboyhiker and Smarky for Co-FTF!!!
