Everybody around here called it the "German Church." It wasn't anything derogatory; it was just because so many of the people who worshipped there were of German descent. Besides, if there ever was a sign with the church's name on it, it was long gone by the time I was born. It wasn't until I placed this cache that I discovered its actual name, "Ebenezer Mennonite Church."
I grew up a little over a mile from here, so I often drove past the simple white-frame church and the adjoining cemetery. Founded around Statehood, the congregation finally got so small that it disbanded when I was 13, after more than 65 years of worship. A short time later, they tore down the church and put up a gray granite marker. On it is a pretty accurate depiction of the church.
