Redda's Park, a great spot to take a break, water ski, camp or have a BBQ.
Many people drive down the highway and not know of this little oasis just off the beaten path.
This area was once a country creek, then around 1980; the creek area was deepened and widened for water skiing. It was also home to local iron man competitions, and was a great community resource.
In 2010, with the Wimmera Mallee pipeline complete, water began flowing into the weir pool for the first time in over 11 drought years.
Before the weir pool was full, the heavy rains came and the creek began to flow, the gates needed to be opened. The creek was alive once again.
But, The rains kept coming, and coming!
The creek was in flood. The embankments needed to be cut at both ends.
The town was in flood. As we're many along this little sleepy creeks path.
As the water subsided, we discovered that the original cache had been taken by the flood waters, never to be seen again.
Major reconstruction work began, and took several months to get this oasis back up and functioning.
After Some smart fundraising, government assistance and a lot of hard volunteer work by the locals, there is a new playground, new BBQ facilities, and revamped camp grounds.
All in all, a fabulous stop.
There is a great walking track around the water skiing area, which takes less than 30 minutes to complete.
BBQ facilities to enjoy the Aussie Snag whilst taking a break, or if you wish set up the tent or park the caravan for the night. There is toilet and hot shower facilities.
