Geocache Description:

I want to dedicate this cache to some very good friends and a special family of basketball players at Holden School.
Across LA HWY 190 you can see Holden School home of the Holden Rockets.
I ask the principal to write me a paper on thier family trudition of basketball here at Holden. Instead she gave me a paper my sister wrote a few years back.

Basketball at Holden School has brought pride to the community for many years and it happened again Saturday night March 2, 1996 when the 95-96 girls' basketball team brought home the beautiful trophy representing the championship in the Class B for the state of Louisiana. The girls' team and cheerleaders were welcomed home after the exciting game with a reception made possible by many devoted supporters.
Amoung those supporters were three people who had been a part of Holden basketball for many years. Woodrow and Ava Higginbotham watched as thier granddaughter, Coach Pam Forbes and her husband Craig coached the 95-96 team to the championship. The couple also remembered back when thier son and later son in law played on the 1963 Boys Class C championship team and brought home the trophy to an excited community. Woodrow had other fond memories of when he had played on the first boys' team at Holden, playing on a dirt court.
Another person in the crowd with tears in her eyes was a widow, Katherine Green. She and her husband Lee had been devoted Rocket fans for many years. Their son, Ed, was the most valuable player in class C in 1963 and had led his team to the 1963 championship. Thier daughter Sharon had played on the 1972 chappionship team. Now, Ed's daughter was the coach of the 95-96 team and Sharon's daughter Krystal was the most valuable player on this team. it was a dream come true for this family.
The above information was written by Rose Ann Stewart, assistant Principal and loyal fan who passed away in 1996. the principal, Paula Green, Pam's mother, found what Rose Ann had written and decided to just finish the story as it is today.
In 1996-97 Pam and Craig Forbes coach another team to the Class B championship and again Krystal Courtney, now a senior won the most valuable player honors again for the second time.
In 2005-06 Pam and Craig coached another team to the Class B championship. This time another one of Sharon's daughters Kassie was a starter on the great team.
We do have a lot to be proud of in our basketball history at Holden. We have a wonderful supportive and careing family and friends.
To me that is what small hometowns are all about. Family and friends enjoying family truditions together.
The cache is a small camo pill bottle.
