Geocache Description:

We got the idea for this one while walking with Christian's family through the Garden District, looking at the historic homes, many of which are 90-100 years old. Streetside parking available at stage 1. Should be a fairly easy little tour; total distance is about a mile, including the walk back to stage 1.

It is of course possible to drive among the stages, but it's a lovely neighborhood, with a lot of one-way streets. Take a walk, it'll be good for you!

Stage 1: The posted coordinates will take you to a historical marker and another sign, one of many marking the edges of the Garden District. (It is also just across Court Street from the house where team hzoi lived from 2010-2013.) This beautiful house is now split into separate apartments, but it used to be a single private residence of a prominent Montgomery attorney and his wife.

Check out the sign:

(A) When was the Garden District designated a historic district?
Year - 1547 = A.

(B) To which civil rights figure did the homeowners give legal assistance?
Martin Luther King Jr. = 177
Rosa Parks = 277
Ralph David Abernathy = 377
Mother Pollard = 477

Stage 2: N 32° 21.A W 086° 18.B
Around the Garden District, many of the sidewalks are an older design, made of hexagonal concrete slabs. Originally, each street corner had the names of the intersecting streets inscribed into the slabs. Some of these older sidewalks have been replaced by poured concrete, as the hexagonal slabs are easily pushed out of place by tree roots. (So watch your step, they can be a tripping hazard.)

Apparently the slabs on this corner have been transplanted from another street corner. What scrambled street name is inscribed in the slabs of the sidewalk? The correct street will take you to stage 3.

S. Perry St. - N 32° 21.590 W 086° 18.820
S. Lawrence St. - N 32° 21.590 W 086° 18.320
S. McDonough St. - N 32° 21.690 W 086° 18.420
S. Hull St. - N 32° 21.390 W 086° 18.520

Stage 3 takes you to another historic house with a marker in front. Check out the marker:
When did the current owner purchase this house? Year - 1195 = X
The current owner of this house purchased another residence prior to this one. Last two digits of the year x 40 = Y.

Final: Just half a block away at N 32° 21.X W 086° 18.Y
