Geocache Description:

Welcome to Flitwick - with a silent 'W'. This is a series of caches designed to increase Flitwick's presence on the caching map. They will be added gradually over the winter of 2010 / 2011.
If you wish to chase the FTF you'll have to come here often. Alternatively you may want to wait till all of them (I'm intending for them to be 15 plus a bonus cache) to be in place.
Plan your own route around the delights of Flitwick!

Cache #7 has been set to highlight the Two Moors Heritage Trail.

The trail is a gentle 5 mile walk aimed to provide a good introduction to the landscape of the area. From Flitwick Mill, the trail follows the R|iver Flit through an area managed by the Wildlife Trust, passing close to the village of Greenfield, and on to Flitton. The return route visits Flitwick Moor Local Nature Reserve, on to Ruxox Farm and Ruxox House (converted to a children's nursery in the last few years). You will find the cache along the route (very) close to where the route crosses Maulden Road at Ruxox House. From here, the route follows the ancient trackway "The Ridgeway", before heading back past Pussy Pond to Folly Farm on the Maulden Road. It then returns to Flitwick Mill, through Flitwick Moor SSSI. Obviously, you could start and finish the circuit at various places, though Flitwick Mill, Greenfield and Flitton are perhaps the obvious choices.

More details of the Two Moors Heritage Trail, including maps can be found at the Greensand Trust website (visit link)

The route can get very muddy (The Mental Marauders say this is an understatement!), though if you do the cache as a cache and dash this can be avoided. You should be able to park near the cache if doing as a cache and dash. I would consider the site to be wheelchair accessible, but assistance will be required for the cache itself. The trail itself is not weelchair accessible.

Be careful if you are crossing Maulden Road, especially with children, as it is quite busy and fast.

The cache is now a sample container. The container only has a log inside - but after all a geocacher should always carry a writing instrument just in case. It is NOT magnetic.

Don't forget to collect the information needed for the bonus. This is written on the yellow sheet at the front of the log.

Please log any issues / DNF's - as I can check the cache very easily.

Congratulations to gogadget on being First To Find
