Whitetail Sanctuary Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

iowaPete: Hard for me to say goodbye to my first-ever geocaching hide. But, it's time to put this one to bed.

Thanks to everybody who came out to chase this cache and especially to L7! who was the first person to ever find a cache that I hid. [:)]

Geocache Description:

Ammo box filled with kid-friendly swag in the Interstate Power Company Forest Preserve. This cache requires a bit of hike to get to, but it's not overly difficult. Plan on taking about 15 minutes of walking to get there. There is a mowed maintained trail; the cache is just a short distance away from the trail. Walk the path from the parking lot through a small patch of the woods, across a field and back into the woods.

The name of this cache is derived from the fact that it is a deer haven in the middle of an area that is quickly becoming developed into homes. Deer paths and sign are scattered all over this preserve. No hunting is allowed so the deer are protected here. It is commonplace to see them when hiking, no matter the weather or time of day. The trail is a loop. After finding the cache, you can finish the hike. It's worth the walk. Some of the views are wonderful here.
