Geocache Description:

Welcome to Soldier's Retreat!

Richard Clough Anderson was a lieutenant colonel in the Continental Army. Anderson was wounded in the battles of Trenton and Savannah before moving to Louisville. Here he served as the chief surveyor of the lands allotted to Virginia patriots. He was a delegate to the Kentucky convention of 1788 and presidential elector in 1793. He also became the first master of Lexington Masonic Lodge. Richard Clough Anderson married Elizabeth Clark, sister of George Rogers Clark and William Clark (Lewis and Clark Expedition). Richard Clough Anderson died on October 16, 1826 at his home which used to sit on these grounds. Col. Anderson called his home Soldier's Retreat.
