Geocache Description:

Our first cache, hidden somewhere in Southern Country Park, the park is a lovely 23 hectares park on the outskirts of Bishop's Stortford. The cache is a small one in a camo bag, with all the normal stuff, log book, pencil, some stuff for kids and we started it with a geocoin too, a bit of scrabbling around may be required. Handicaching average rating: H32332

Southern Country Park is one of East Herts Councils best and newest parks, covering approximately 23ha. Created as part of a Section 106 agreement in the late 80s; East Herts Council took it over in 2001, winning the prestigious Green Flag Award every year since 2008. The park has the the country’s first purpose-built public dog agility course, a play area, loads of walks that lead out into the greater Hertfordshire countryside, a play area and a lake, an orienteering course and now a series of hidden geocaches. The park has several distinct areas, with the balancing pond for fishing and duck feeding, an enclosed picnic area and large grassed areas for informal play and kite flying, plus an exciting older children's play area adjacent to the car park off Thorley Lane East, three Orienteering routes and a dog activity area. There are also a wide variety of wildlife habitats and features such as woodland, grazing areas, chalk banks, informal play spaces, streams and a small natural pond.
