Geocache Description:

This is a recipe cache
NOTE: If you take a recipe but don't have a recipe to leave in the cache you can add one to your log here

This cache is not what I hope the nearby residents will do, rather it is a tribute to the iconic Edmonds Cookery Book which has been part of almost every New Zealand home for over 100 years. The copies on my, my Mum’s and my Mums Mum’s shelves were stained and well used- which many say is evidence of a good cook book!
The first edition of the Edmonds Cookery Book was published in 1908 by Thomas Edmonds in thanks for the support given to his Baking Powder. It was a 50 page booklet of economical, everyday recipes and cooking hints. Every couple who announced their engagement in the paper and housewives who applied in writing received a complimentary copy.
In 1955 the first Deluxe Edition went on sale in the format that still used today with its familiar spiral binding and image of the Edmonds Christchurch factory on the front. Over 3.3 million copies of the Deluxe Edition have been printed over the past 50 years.
The Cookery Book has been updated over the years (there’s even a Microwave version!) and new recipes added but the alterations have largely been minor.
It is now a New Zealand tradition to receive a copy of the Cookery Book from your Mum when you first leave home. A great practical guide, it not only contains all our Kiwi favourites such as Pavlova, Bacon and Egg Pie, Afghans, Spanish Cream, Ginger Crunch, Peanut Brownies etc etc, but also straight forward instructions on essentials such as how long to roast meat or microwave vegetables.
In 2008 the centenary edition of the book was published as a hard cover edition of the spiral bound format. Now over 250 pages (yikes- mine only has 164 maybe it’s time for an update?) this well-loved book is sure to remain a staple ingredient in Kiwi kitchens for many years to come

In the cache I have included some of my favourite recipes from my 1980, 17th printing of the book- which cost me a whole $3.30. Also included are recipes my family and friends love and ones from magazines that look interesting. Bon Appetite!

The gate has no handle- slip your hand under the latch to open. There is a creek at GZ so watch small children, Mozzi Spary may be required.

It's probably best to leave your dogs at home as bait has been laid in the area
