Geocache Description:

This is a more traditional Letterbox cache, where we get you to a starting point, then you must follow a series of clues to find the container. Therefore if you look for the cache at the listed coordinates, without following clues below, you will likely not find it. This is a very winter friendly cache. .

  1. Start at listed coordinates. You must first visit Mary Plym where all visitors to Fernwood are welcomed to the Grounds. After paying your admission fee, you may then continue your search.
  2. You are less than 50 feet from the Cache, but you won’t be able to see it just yet.
  3. You will want to proceed until you gain a view of the Winter Railway Garden to find your goal.
  4. You must next search for a position where you have a clear view of the Famous Notre Dame Golden Dome.
  5. Now you have to imagine yourself as Alice and peer into the Looking Glass to see a place here the letterbox cache rests. It might have a Red Flag Raised to indicate there is outgoing Mail.
  6. Once you spot it, you will have to find the passage to where it resides. The best route probably passes a sign that states the “Library is open to the Public”. It would be wise to memorize the numbers 3-5-7.
  7. The Cache contains a Logbook, Rubber Stamp, Pad and some Packets of used postage stamps that your kids might like.
  8. The Fernwood Staff knows about the cache and normally have a copy of this cache page at the front desk should you need to refresh your memory of the clues.

Located in Fernwood Botanical Gardens and Nature Preserve along the beautiful St. Joseph River. Parking is only allowed at the Mary Plym Visitor Center. Please enter the grounds through this entrance before starting your search for all Fernwood caches.

Since there are Visitor Fees (see below), take time to hike the other numerous trails and gardens, take a break with visits to the Nature Center and Gallery Exhibits and if your present at lunch time you can bring your own picnic or select something from the cafe. Please make sure you pick up a map of the grounds and follow Fernwood's no off trail hiking rules.

Bring a pen or pencil as you will need one for several of Fernwood’s caches. This set of caches has been placed with Fernwood staff approval and allows visitors to explore the numerous trails at Fernwood.
