Bois D’Arc Giant – The King Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

train1904: I'm sorry to archive this one but the King was stolen (or disappeared anyway), and is not replaceable. So I'll archive to open up the area for something else. I hate to archive one with so many favorites, but such is life.

Geocache Description:

This is not a puzzle The cache is at the listed coords. This one-of-a-kind cache is part of the Bois D’Arc Giant Series so the container is being listed as a mystery cache because it is unusual. It has been placed on the Bois D'Arc Conservation Area under Missouri Department of Conservation Special Use Permit 1102. Thanks to manager Kevin Hedgepeth for approving it. Each cache in this series is a Park and Hike and a very large container. It contains a log and a variety of trade items.

Darn Darn Darn - I'm told (in January 2013) that the king has been stolen. This cache was originally a big bust of Elvis and was so big that I had to haul it in with a dolly. It earned lots of favorite points so I want to leave it up. Be aware that its no longer a giant size cache, its just a regular size and there is now no mystery to it. I will leave the cache container where it is, but if you hoped to see Elvis - he's been stolen and is not replaceable! Sorry.

You can park at this gravel lot: N 37 16.399 W093 30.221. This is the lot in zone 7 for the Aquatic Center which us locals call the fishing pond. Then just head toward the west and south. This unique cache is found about 0.14 miles from parking and you can follow somewhat of a mowed area to within 100 feet of the cache. This is the heaviest cache I ever placed. Ticks, chiggers, thorns and poison ivy will be a problem during that last 100 feet. This area may also be wet after a rain.

Since this is a conservation area, please use due caution during hunting seasons. In fact, if it is opening day just don't even try and at other times, use common sense. The area is closed from 10 pm to 4 am every day, so daylight caching is probably best. One note about this location – this place is for groups to fish and during warm weather bus loads of folks will arrive and when that happens you will need to use a bit more stealth to get this cache without drawing attention. In my opinion, I would prefer to cache this conservation area in late fall, winter and early spring. So there won’t be any groups fishing then anyway. This pond is not open to public fishing unless you are with a group.

Congrats to Ozarks Jim for getting the FTF. His log is a fun one.
