Geocache Description:

A micro cache container placed a short distance off the trail within the Prescott National Forest. Log only so BYOP.

Update 9/28/2013.

This cache was squarely in the sights of the Doce Fire in June of 2013, and the Prescott National Forest finally opened trails leading to this cache a couple of days ago. The cache has been replaced and is active again, but the wonderful grove of manzanita that spurred us to place this cache, just outside the Wilderness area is forever gone. We will leave it here to force us to come up this way on occasion and watch the recovery progression of the forest we love.

Please traverse the cache site with care! The soil is is a fragile state at this time and I hate to cause any more erosion. Coordinates have been updated, though the cache location is the same. The lack of vegetation allows for a much improved view of the sky, thus I think the new coords are likely more accurate.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We took a hike out to this area to log our 400th find and stopped here to have some hot chocolate and place a commemorative cache.

Park at the Metate Trailhead near Granite Basin Lake and take trail 261 into the Granite Mountain Wilderness Area. When you arrive at Blair Pass, go through the gate (exiting the Wilderness Area) and head southwest to the cache site on Trail 37.

There is a fee for parking but if you have an annual or lifetime access pass for federal lands, this can be displayed in the windshield of your car in lieu of the purchased parking pass.
