Below are given 3 sets of coordinates, each representing an interesting area in Montgomery:
- N 41 30.719 W 74 15.601 - A Runway At OC Airport
- N 41 31.724 W 74 14.290 - Ward's Bridge
- N 41 31.369 W 74 12.894 - Valley Central HS Football Field
These points represent 3 of the 4 vertices of an EXACT parallelogram. The cache is located near the 4th vertex. You have to calculate the position of the missing vertex before you go out looking.
Once you calculate the Vertex points you may realize there is more than one. In fact there are three vertex points, each a possible cache location.
While you could travel to all three locations & scour the areas, there is a much easier way. You need to compute the centroid of the triangle that all 3 Vertex points form. At that centroid point, there is a sign that will give you the information needed to find the correct vertex point as well as the projection info from that Vertex point to the final cache location.
Hope this brings back some geometry memories!
Info obtained from Centroid point for Projection:
Distance= a.bcdeea km
Degrees= fcg.dahdbi*
- a= July a ,1996
- b= Number of letters in 3rd word
- c= Number of red colored letters
- d= Rule # that has word "erected" in it
- e= Rule that starts with "Planting of trees"
- f= Number of letters in 1st word
- g= Rule # that starts with "No glass"
- h= Rule # that starts with "No walking"
- i= Opening Hour minus one"
For sake of the cache, the Vertex Points are labeled 1-3 with the one located farthest West as 1, next one East is 2, the farthest East one is 3.
Going back to the sign at the Centroid point:
Cache Vertex
- Rule # that begins with the letter "N"
No need to visit the Vertex site to make the final projection needed..though it is close by!
