Geocache Description:

Buracas do Casmilo

Buracas of Casmilo

Portuguese limestone outcrops in the main, the process evolution of karst relief led to the formation of landscapes whose peculiar asset value does not offer reservations. The Massif Sico, located between the municipalities of Condeixa-a-Nova, and Pombal Alvaiázere, it is no exception and fall training geological audacious, which the Valley of the holes of evidence.

At the parish Furadouro in the village of Casmilo (framed by Lady Hill Circle and Sierra of Janeane) that we find this valley, with small cannon fluviocársico slopes almost entirely excavated by rock shelters and small limpets, the famous Buracas where, until recently, if wrap the herds of goats and sheep, and still today feed stories and legends.

The holes, which resemble old mouths ready to swallow, correspond, in fact, the small recesses of development horizontal, an opening and a depth rarely exceeded the ten meters. These were formed by reduction of nuclear Hill, where only the lateral cavities, remnants of the cave before that was hidden inside the mountain, remain visible.

Although they can be understood as forms of evidence of karst deep, they relate, first, with the evolution superficial aspects of the limestone cliffs, and have been formed on colder than at present, probably during the last cold period of the Quaternary.

Incidentally, both on the basis of these as in other steep slopes with holes are visible deposits gelifractos, testimony clear that the rock broke the ice. If the visitor common, Buracas impressed by the magnificence, the cavers and practitioners of outdoor sports (climbing, mountaineering, orientation, abseiling ...) constitute a challenge exciting.
