Geocache Description:

Surfcoast Secrets is a series of caches designed to share some of the places that make the Surfcoast special. These include iconic and lesser known views, local history and landmarks. #2 takes you to a spectacular viewpoint with some local history. This is a simple multi, with final GZ located outside the Parks Vic area.

The previous cache at this spot was a traditional, but since at the time of hiding, conventional wisdom was that Parks Vic would no longer allow placement of caches, I have elected to make this a multi, with WP#1 designed to show you the views and the final GZ a standard sort of hide a short drive back the way you came in. The current info is that Parks Vic don't have a problem with caching, but for now, this can stay a simple Multi.

The published coordinates will have you at a series of signs giving information about the surrounding area and some history. These signs will provide you with the simple clues to find GZ.

As a prominant headland, Point Addis provided a good vantage point for wartime observers and a plaque here commemorates this fact. The first two numbers are from the year the plaque was unveiled: (A)00(B) The plaque also mentions the role played by these air observers when a B25 Mitchell bomber crashed into the sea in the year 194(C). Of the crew, (D) were rescued and (E) died.

The next numbers come from the Parks Vic sign, which details a number of walks you can do from here. The walk to Point Addis lookout is (F)0m return and the Addiscott beach is (G)00m.

After that, we read about William Buckley, the escaped convict who lived among the Wathaurong people in this area for over 20 years, before rejoining white society and being pardoned. William Buckley was born in the year (H)(I)80 and died in 1856 at the age of 76.

The final GZ can be found at S:38 AD.EFC, E:144 HC.FGI

Once you've gathered these coordinates and enjoyed the views, a short drive back the way you came will have you near GZ. Be aware that this road can be busy at times, so please make sure you park safely off the carriageway when you do the final retrieve. There's a suitable spot a few metres past GZ. Stealth may be required at GZ and shoes are recommended. The cache is a camouflaged 1.5l Sistema with log and swaps and a couple of scratchies for FTF. There are some long-drop loos a littl way back down the road from the car-park at the end of the point, but please take care walking down the road in summer, as it can be quite busy.
