La Aventura de los hombre bailando: La Entrevista
Holmes y Watson reciben la visita de Hilton Cubitt, un personaje al que Watson describe con estas palabras: "Alto, colorado, completamente afeitado, de ojos claros y mejillas sonrojadas” que indicaban que vivía lejos de las nieblas de Baker Street. Después de entrar y estrechar la mano a ambos, se dispuso a narrar los pormenores de cómo conoció a su esposa, así como de la forma en que empezó a recibir extraños mensajes en su casa y como éstos aterraban a su amada esposa.
El Sr. Cubitt detalló la forma en cómo conoció a Elsie Parker, su esposa, y las condiciones que ella le puso para poder casarse con él. “He tenido en mi vida algunas compañías muy desagradables -me dijo-. Quiero olvidarme de ellas y preferiría no mencionar nunca el pasado, porque me resulta muy doloroso. Si me aceptas, Hilton, te llevarás una mujer que no tiene nada de qué avergonzarse personalmente; pero tendrás que aceptar mi palabra y permitirme guardar silencio sobre todo lo que sucedió hasta el momento en que llegué a ser tuya. Si estas condiciones te resultan inaceptables, regresa a Norfolk y déjame seguir con la vida solitaria que llevaba cuando me encontraste" Estas fueron las palabras exactas que me dijo antes de nuestra boda. Mencionó el Sr. Cubitt.
El Sr. Cubitt también narró la forma en la que empezaron aparecer extraños dibujos de monigotes bailarines en algunos sitios dentro de su propiedad y como éstos afectaron de manera significativa a su esposa, al grado de que ella llegó a desmayarse.
Holmes después de una breve reflexión comentó al Sr. Cubitt que los jeroglíficos significaban algo y que si se trata de una clave arbitraria, podría ser imposible descifrarla y que si ésta era sistemática, llegarían al fondo del asunto. Así mismo le solicitó al Sr. Cubitt que era necesario que regresara a su casa y que realizará una copia exacta cada monigote que apareciera en la casa para que posteriormente él la revisara.
The Adventure of the Dancing Men: La Entrevista
Holmes and Watson receive a visit from Hilton Cubitt, a character that Watson describes in these words: "Tall, ruddy, clean-shaven, with bright eyes and flushed cheeks" indicating that he lived far from the fogs of Baker Street. After entering and shake hands with both, set out to recount the details of how he met his wife, as well as how they started receiving strange messages on their home and they terrified his beloved wife.
Mr. Cubitt explained the way how he met Elsie Parker, his wife, and the conditions in order to marry him. "I have had some very disagreeable associations in my life, said she; I wish to forget all about them. I would rather never allude to the past, for it is very painful to me. If you take me, Hilton, you will take a woman who has nothing that she need be personally ashamed of; but you will have to be content with my word for it, and to allow me to be silent as to all that passed up to the time when I became yours. If these conditions are too hard, then go back to Norfolk and leave me to the lonely life in which you found me." These were the exact words I said before our wedding. He said Mr Cubitt.
Mr Cubitt also narrated how starting appearing absurd little dancing figures in some places on your property and how they significantly affected his wife, she causing in a dead faint.
Holmes after a brief reflection he said to Mr. Cubitt that the hieroglyphics meant something and that if a key is arbitrary, it might be impossible to decipher and that if it was systematic, he have no doubt get to the button of it. Also requested Mr. Cubitt to go home and make an exact copy of each dancing men that appear in the house so he review them later.
