Geocache Description:

This is where my wife said yes. A delightful spot with in Bourne Woods.

Bourne Wood, owned by the Forestry Commission, is an area managed for conservation, recreation and timber production. The wood contains a vast mixture of broadleaf and conifer trees of many ages. This diversity has created ideal conditions for a wide range of wildlife, including foxes, grey squirrels, owls, snakes, badgers dormice and a wide variety of birds. Larger animals can been seen wandering through the woods such as white fallow deer and you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of their smaller, shy cousin, the muntjac or barking deer.
Many wild flowers can be seen here in season include bluebells, primroses, wood anemone and nettle leaved bell flower, eldar, juniper and blackberries
Deep in the woods are two lakes and these have become watering holes for woodland inhabitants and home to ducks, herons, many aquatic animals including several species of fish. The pools are a mass of rushes and sedge, white water lilies float on the surface and yellow flag grows in the margins.
There is a sculpture trail from the car park to the clue which will take you past a number of sculptures crafted by both resident artists and local school children. Look out for the giant’s footprint.
It is at stage 1 (the clue to the cache) that I proposed to my wife. Dragonflies hovered over the lake and I think a few bats flew overhead. When you find the clue you will be at the exact point that my girlfriend said yes and became my fiancée. We were married 2 Jan 2010.

This Cache was placed with kind permission of
The Forestry Commission, Northants Forest District.
