Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden in Bear Creek Redwoods at the above-listed coordinates. In order to log this cache, you must find 26 caches, as explained below.

Important Note: A free permit is required to hike in Bear Creek Redwoods OSP. Permits and further information may be easily obtained by calling the District office at (650) 691-1200 during regular business hours (ask for Leslie).

After passing Alma Dale, the trail becomes dry and hot. You might wish you were in the redwood canyons again.Well, your wish is granted. This cache marks the spot where the trail enters a cool, redwood covered area. You are looking for a small lock and lock container with room for small swag.

In February 2008, I helped Vaudesir place a cache at this location during a Geocachers of the Bay Area group hike. About a year ago, Vaudesir stopped geocaching, and this cache became archived. During another GBA hike recently, I happened to stop to check this location, and I found a cache still in place. I asked Vaudesir whether I could adopt it, and he agreed, but eventually discovered that he had mangled his account to the point that the adoption process wouldn't work. So, I needed to create a new listing. I don't really like the idea of having the exact same cache listed twice; so I decided to add Challenge requirements in order to log this cache again (thus explaining the increased difficulty level). Note that if you have not visited this cache before, you may still log the original archived cache by using this link: GC19DY3 The redwoods are back!. However, in order to claim two logs, you must make two separate visits (on different days).

************LOGGING REQUIREMENTS**********

In order to qualify for this challenge cache, you must first visit 26 other caches, conforming to the following requirements:

  1. Each cache title must begin with a different letter of the alphabet (punctuation and spaces may be ignored at the beginning of the title, but not numbers and words)
  2. Each cache title must contain one of the following: "bear", "creek", or "redwood"
  3. At least five of the caches must contain "bear"
  4. At least five of the caches must contain "creek"
  5. At least five of the caches must contain "redwood"
  6. At least five different icons (cache types) must be included amongst your finds
  7. You must revisit this cache, even if you have previously visited GC19DY3, and you must sign in the "BCR Challenge" logbook
  8. Special Restriction for FTF only: All caches found must have been hidden before 1/1/2011 Congrats to Geokashers and WERDAVE for the FTF!
  9. Previous finds DO count. You may already have met these qualifications! (but I doubt it)

Examples: The letters can be part of another word. "Kodiak Dave Has Bearly Begun" counts for "K". Even "LeChuck's HellBeard Treasure" counts for "L". "A Red One For The Redwoods" counts for "A". "10 Redwood Caches! #1: Canyon Meadow" cannot be used as a qualifying cache because it begins with a number, and "fred woodward park" cannot be used because of the space separating "red" and "wood".
