Geocache Description:

A small cache with log book and room for small trinkets but BYOP. This cache is located on the Paintsville Lake Wildlife Management - Cane Branch Unit area and is placed with permission from the USACE.

Off of Route 580 look for the Blanton Br sign (there used to be an "Outdoor Classroom" sign). It will be on the right side of the road if you are traveling from Paintsville Lake towards Oil Springs and is very easy to pass up. It's a narrow paved road and a couple of miles to the parking area. Be aware of children playing and people on horseback as there are some popular trails nearby. It's about a quarter of a mile from the parking area to the cache. This is known as the Outdoor Classroom and Boy Scouts frequent the area. There area a couple of neat exhibits nearby such as the site of an old cabin. There's an obvious route to the cache that should be passed up as you could get your feet wet. Walk towards the pavilion and when you near it there's a clear trail next to an Ironwood tree (noted by a sign) that leads over the hill towards the cache.

The trail from here leads around and over a ridge towards Colvin Branch - known by many people as "Pickle Fork" and a favorite swimming location. The "Irvine-Paint Creek Fault" cache can be reached by hike from here. I haven't clocked it but guess it to be less than a mile.

This cache is possible thanks to permission from the USACE Paintsville Lake office.
