Family Ties on the Reef Traditional Cache

This cache is to commemorate our family gathering for Christmas
2010 and the 2011 new year. The cache was placed by myself with
Hearse068, Thing No1, Thing No2, THTSGLD, Anderka, Ywurry, geo partners and geo children
so was a real family effort. It will bring you to Reef Island which
is a small nature reserve on the Eastern side of Western Port Bay.
The island is about 8 hectares in size and is linked to Kennedy
Point at low tide by a series of gravelly ridges. The island is
popular with bird watchers as it is an important high tide roost
for migratory waders and other water birds. There are several
different varieties that inhabit the island. We have fond memories
of garfishing with a spotlight and boating around the island (when
the tide allowed) with our parents when we were kids. From where
the cache is hidden there are great views of Coronet Bay, French
Island, Phillip Island, San Remo and surrounding farmland.
The cache is approximately 2.5kms from the carpark. DO NOT TAKE A DIRECT LINE ACROSS THE MUD FLATS OR YOU WILL STAY THERE FOREVER. You will need to walk along the beach and follow the gravelly ridges to the Island.
It is approximatly 45 minute walk one way. It is only accesible at
low tide (although you could probably kayak across or brave a swim)
and appropriate footwear should be worn due to the rocky, muddy
