Geocache Description:

Posted coordinates are for the cemetery…..NOT THE CACHE! Please be very respectful of this hallowed ground and absolutely NO NIGHT CACHING! Just enjoy visiting yet another old local cemetery.

Zinc or ‘White Bronze” headstones and markers can be found throughout North America. However, we in Western New York seem to have an abundance of them. All of them were produced by a company founded in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In 1881 Bridgeport set up it’s first subsidiary in Detroit and later expanded to Philadelphia, New Orleans, Des Moines, Chicago and St. Thomas, Ontario. They are made of cast zinc which allowed them to produced and shipped rather inexpensively. Once you have seen one, it will be easy for you to spot them again in you ‘cemetery travels’. Here in this little Bear Ridge Cemetery, I would like to introduce you to a few of them as you make you way to the final. You will need to find some information at each of them…so come prepared to fill in the following: N 43. 0B.EAR W078.4Z.INC "Montraville and Caroline" N43.05.826 W078.45.591 Here you will find your first Zinc marker of the Folger’s. B = When Montraville DIED…he was 7”B” y’rs, 1 mo and 23 days. E = When Caroline died…she was “E”4 years. "Mary" N43.05.811 W078.45.579 Here you will find a precious Zinc headstone of Mary, Daughter of John and Rebecca Ricker A = When Mary died she was “A” years, 5 months, and R = “R” days "Lillie" N43.05.804 W078.45.591 Here you will find your third marker of Lillie, Daughter of Henry and Margaret Rickard. Z = Lillie died on Jan. 8, 18”Z”7 I = Lillie died on Jan. 8, 18”I”7 "Baby" Here you will find a family marker Ellen Tousey and her baby. N = Baby died in 1”N”74. C = Ellen C. was born on July 6, 1”C”46. Now fill in all the letters “BEAR ZINC” with the numbers that you have found to get to the final cache location. I hope that you have enjoyed your tour and will appreciate this fine form of Markers and Headstones! Visit Waymarking.com “Zinc Headstones” for the many listings folks have found!
