A simple matter of climbing to the true summit of Mt Doom (Ngauruhoe). Once there the find should be pretty simple.
If you are not familiar with the route up Mt Ngauruhoe, I would question whether you should make the attempt. Keep left is my only advice on the ascent, following the obvious more solid outcrops. All the usual common sense advice should be taken (though there are always idiots up there that don't).
Go only in good weather (with a good forecast - check Met Service Mountain Forecasts or Metvuw or mountain-forecasts.com or all three! Only go in summer or early autumn and carry all the necessary clothing and survival gear in case things go bad and be prepared to abadon your attempt if the stars don;t align. Also, be aware of rock fall being set off by other climbers if the mountain is busy. Keep your wits about you at all times.
On a good day this shouldn't be too much of a struggle for someone of reasonable fitness. It took my 12yo daughters and myself 3.5 hours to ascend from the Mangatepopo carpark. You are up for a shade over 1000m vertical ascent.
Cache is a 200ml. The cover rock is not resting on the container. Make sure you replace carefully again so as not to damage container underneath (may get heavier with snow over winter).
Note!!!!!! This is an EASY cache to get to. If you are doing anything risky or potentially dangerous you are in the wrong place or on the way to the wrong place.
Have fun. Obviously you could return or continue onward on the Tongariro Crossing knowing you have knocked off the 3rd highest peak in the North Island
