Normally my passion is in the field of arts and crafts but
occasionally I have opportunity to use writing skills in a
regularly emailed monthly newsletter I do called “Titus
Talk”. It’s only a few pages long and most of the
material
has been contributed by the various plant department heads
for placement in the newsletter. In it I highlight birthdays
or company anniversaries and of course there is always a
regular column concerning safety and health in the plant.
The opening page is always reserved for the plant manager,
you know how that goes, but every now and then when the
deadline approaches and he has not had the time (or the
enlightenment) to write something thought provoking I
get to fill in with some of my own “words of
wisdom”
related to the plant or the power industry in general.
Even though I don’t have any diplomas on my wall, I do
every now and again, seem to come up with a little
something special if I do say so myself.
For those of you who know me well or have at least met me
it should not come as a surprise that I like to have some
fun in my life. My newsletters (and caches) are no exception.
There is a section in Titus Talk that I place a fun cartoon
or
exaggerated photo related to the plant or personnel - they
get
excellent reviews. Of course because of that for some reason
no one ever let’s me take their picture LOL!
Performing the various duties related to being the editor
of the newsletter definitely has its share of ups and downs.
Incidentally, my picture and one of my articles on safety is
now gracing the front page of our company’s intranet
site.
To the delight of my coworkers… its payback time! So
the
shoe is on the other foot now. Several copies of my picture
ended up posted around the plant complete with word balloons-
very clever and funny too. Because they know I can take it as
easily as I dish it out there are never hard feelings.
Newsletters are interesting work but I have dabbled in a
few
other areas too. I tried my hand at some poetry but really
never did anything I would consider good enough to publish.
Ever since we were told how to organize our thoughts in the
sixth grade, I have attempted creative new ways to
express myself with words. Trying my hand at short stories
very early on in my youth however ended up reading like
extremely bad Goosebumps or maybe Steven King on acid.
Not that I didn’t try, but I’d say newsletters are it
for now.
...Anyway, HAPPY CACHING!!!
