Geocache Description:

Welcome to the lovely old Cawdortown Cemetery - now the Northcote Cemetery.

The Cemetery looks like it is locked up - but it's not, there is a hard to spot pedestrian gate on Separation St that is open at least between 0730 and 1730 (1930 during daylight savings) There is no access from All Nations Park. The large double gates are permanently locked.

The records show that there are around a couple of hundred burials in this cemetery, the last being in 1971 The very early ones being the 1850s German settlers of Northcote who called this place Cawdortown and Seperation St was known as German Lane
One history describes the area as ".... being part of Melbourne's neglected north". I wish I had bought a house when that was written !
Separation St was so named to commemorate the separation of Victoria from New South Wales (hooray for that !!!). The area along Separation St was mostly market gardens, and the homes of early settlers - some of which survive today.
Immediately behind the cemetery is now All Nations Park - which was once the clay pits for the adjacent Northcote Brick Works, now the location of Northcote Plaza.

This multi takes you (somewhat ironically) to the graves of a couple of Northcote locals who died in two world wars fighting the Germans!

To continue the military theme - this cache container is a green metal ammo can. It is hidden in ***plain sight*** - with just a little bit of camo. Please make sure you replace with some camo when you replace - there is plenty around. Initially - it just contains a small log book.

Please don't divulge the nature of the hide in your logs, or I will be cross.

This is a lovely well kept peaceful place. Please be respectful to the local residents, both dead and alive. That's our house just over there ----> so I'm watching you !
