A cache near Nant Milgatw and it's waterfall. A great walk.
I love this location and walk the area regularly.
The cache is located at the site of the Waterfall on Nant Milgatw, which is marked on the 1:25k Ordinance Survey Map. The location is North of Shon Sheffrey’s Reservoir at Nantybwch.
This cache is a great starting point to explore the others on the mountain, all of which are worth visiting; I especially like the Chartist’s View.
You will probably approach the waterfall from either Trefil or Rassau Industrial Estate on the track, which marks the location of the Trefil to Sirhowy railroad, built in 1796 to transport limestone from Trefil Quarry to Sirhowy Iron Works. My favourite route is from the path alongside Dukestown Cemetery, which leads straight onto the mountain.
Downstream of the Waterfall will see the Ivy Arch, the pretty little bridge constructed to take the railroad over the river. By walking upstream you will get great views. As with all mountain walking please come prepared with sturdy boots, waterproofs and navigational aids. If you are going exploring the approach to the base of the waterfall can be boggy, although you will not have to go down to the river to find this stash.
This is our first attempt at hiding a cache, so I hope you enjoy looking for it and taking in the rugged beauty of the area.
