No good - a change is needed here.

Three years ago, I was yelled at by the crazy lady, so I left.

This time, I was approached by a guard who told me that I couldn't be here.
As this is a Women's shelter, they are very nervous about men hanging around.
I explained that all I wanted to do was to search along the fence area and NOT go inside.
My GPS was clearly visible, but this guard knew nothing about what I was trying to do and didn't look like she would buy into the Geocaching story.

And since a quick sex change operation was not doable (nor desirable), I had to move along.

This cache placement is inappropriate. The shelter always has people there and they are nervous about "visitors". And given the many comments about the container not being reachable augments the argument that this needs to be fixed.

Either move the cache across the street, down the street or archive. Making bad publicity should always be a no-no.
Geocache Description:

The Park Slope Armory was built in 1895 as the home to the "Fighting 14th," a regiment which has a distinguished history from the Civil War through WWI.

The Fourteenth Regiment, N.Y.S.M. (New York State Militia) got its nickname thanks to the bright red Zouave pantaloons of their uniform, and to Stonewall Jackson during the First Battle of Bull Run:
The 14th Brooklyn, the 69th New York Militia and 11th New York would charge up Henry House Hill four times, in an effort to recapture Ricketts' and Griffin's cannon. The other two regiments met with little success, but the 14th Brooklyn found gaps and weaknesses in the Confederate lines and exploited them with great efficiency. They would take the guns, but would be forced back again, only to retake the guns again. The constant charging and ferocity of the 14th Brooklyn's tactics, caught the eye of General Jackson himself. This is when he made his famous statement to his troops: "Hold On Boys! Here come those Red Legged Devils again!" With that the regiment received its famed nickname the "Red Legged Devils".

The "Fighting 14th" went on to distinguish itself at Second Bull Run, Antietam, and Gettysburg. It fought during the Spanish American War and in WWI.

After the Civil War the regiment got a new headquarters in Brooklyn:

In 1891, a new armory for the 14th was planned by Kings County, and a budget of $300K was set. Before long, another $100K was asked for, then another $200K, and the project was halted by public outrage, investigations and litigation before the cornerstone, a boulder from Gettysburg, was laid in 1894. By the time the building was finished in 1895, the total cost had reached $650K, over twice the original budget.

Apparently cost overruns for public works are nothing new.

The Armory is now home to the YMCA and is on the National Register of Historic Places. You can read more about the 14th here and there's also a short documentary on the Armory from Channel 13.

This was originally going to be a puzzle cache but I thought it would be better to bring more cachers to this historic spot.

PLEASE NOTE: The front part of the Armory is now a women's shelter. Please be respectful of the safety and privacy of the residents.
