Before there were GPS devices, or even accurate maps, navigation was done using Dead Reckoning.
Wikipedia defines Dead Reckoning as "the process of estimating one's current position based upon a previously determined position, or fix, and advancing that position based upon known or estimated speeds over elapsed time, and course."
Assume if you will, that every geo-cacher walks at the exact same speed when their head is down looking at their GPS while walking into a tree; that speed being exactly two miles per hour. Keeping that assumption (as you must for this exersize), you would travel 5,280 feet in 30 minutes, 176 feet per minute, or 2.93333334 feet per second.
Start at the posted coordinates. If you keep your speed constant and follow these directions to the second, you reckon right, or just get lucky, you will end up at ground zero, or at least walk into a tree (keep your head up).
