My Old Haunt
Back before X-Box Kinect, and the likes, kids used to devote free
time to activities not tethered to TV sets or apron strings. As a
group back in the dark ages we were collectively thinner, drenching
our days with flight of the imagination. Geocaching is an extension
of those adventures for me. This old guy gets to be a kid in deed
and spirit. It is that recollection of past days that brought me
back to ‘My Old Haunt’.
During hunting season, a friend and I would gear up, shotguns in
hand, and walk the ten miles or so to this area. We started early,
messed around all day doing little hunting. Mostly, we spent the
day making up adventures. Bring home ducks or pheasants only meant
plucking feathers and digging for bird shot. Okay, we were also a
little lazy, but a different kind of lazy then now a days.
Now you see my connection to this area and why a cache is a new
memory to add to ‘My Old Haunt’. It is a nice area to
spend the day just hiking around the hills of basalt, slopes of
sagebrush, and your thoughts. There are no hills like white
elephants but you could bring a book, chair, and blanket making a
day of chilling topped off with another cache for your list.
There are several caches in the area. Granted they have been around
a while. Stratts, GC1BNNH is a nice easy find with
parking, it was the second cache hidden in 2008. Gloyd
Seeps, GCYFKA is more of a stroll and if you like
listening to wildlife it is the right spot, hidden in 2006.
Deeeeep in the Seeps, GC1XW2E was hidden in 2009
and gets you out a bit deeper than the others. They are all good
and a must have find for any cacher.
The cache is an ammo box painted camo and hidden so it is not in
plain sight. Once you find it and do trading or just sign the log
book let’s keep the cache hidden like it was so the next
cacher will spend time looking. It was meant to be more difficult
than average but doable. Coordinates were taken on a cloudy day so
factor in the possibility you may not be smack dab on top of this
cache coordinate wise when you find the cache. When you log it
please let me know the condition of the box, I will take care of
water issues or others so the cache is in the best shape for travel
bugs and treasure. When trading SWAG remember to trade even or
up.
What’s in box? FTF gets a two dollar bill to keep plus a FTF
Certificate and choice of SWAG.

Enjoy the area and please help keep the area CLEAN, always pick
up a couple of pieces of trash and carry them out. It does not take
too much time to spruce up our game board, and teach kids to
respect the land we are using. Remember your trash bag, don’t
leave home without it.
