Geocache Description:

An easy cache & dash with a bit of history too!

Built in June of 1799. The turnpike went from Catherinetown (Montour Falls) up Jackson Hill Road (now County Rd. 14) , through the crossroads at Johnson's Settlement (now Catherine hamlet), continuing on to the present Ste. Rte.13 for a short ways and then east on Smith Road. It meets today's Rte.224.The turnpike followed the valley which Cayuta Creek flows to Spenser. If driven today, it is about 8 miles long. A Historical Marker was installed by the State Education Department 1932.

Thanks & Congrats to trsmario for FTF!
