Geocache Description:

This cache is located very close to the track, and camo needs to be replaced well. Surprisingly it is in a very safe little spot at the base of a tree in a small roadside plantation. A casual walk down a walking track will bring you to a small road intersection. Once you are at the cache you are actually hidden from muggle view. This is a very easy find, and I can assure you my series will get progressively harder, so enjoy this easy one.

*****WARNING INFORMATION BELOW IS SENSITIVE, BUT FACTUAL HISTORY*** As a former member of the special forces I wanted to create a caching group that highlights some of Australia's military history. Whilst we would agree solving the worlds issues using military force is not the way to do things, the fact that we have served in defence of the values we all take for granted should be recognised. So whilst you enjoy the great views, pleasant walks and the freedom to travel from shore to shore, spare a thought for the very troops that served to ensure we have democracy and the freedom to express our opinions. Please read and take a moments silence at these caches to reflect on our lost soldiers, still fighting in far off countries for democracy and freedom. "Lest we forget"

South Vietnam 1966

On 18 August 1966 D Company of 6RAR encountered a small group of Viet Cong who fled leaving one of their number killed by the Australians. the main body of the Viet Cong 275 Regiment was encountered. The Viet Cong attacked vigorously with mortars, rifle and machine gun fire.

Morning revealed that the Viet Cong force, estimated at 2,500, had been badly mauled. 245 Viet Cong bodies were found in the battle area.

The Australians had lost 18 killed, 17 from D Company and one from 1st APC Squadron, and 24 wounded.

This cache name has a special meaning to me. When I joined the Australian Army and did my basic training, each Platoon is named after a battle that Australia has fought in. My platoon was "Long Tan".

Cache is a sistema (1 litre) container, containing soldier, $1 Coin (End of the war series) and a TB #2743QB, first to find will get a special forces "strike swiftly" commando Beret badge. A special find.
