Geocache Description:

This is part of a series I am starting called Historic Horsham. If you want to add to it, please contact me. The historic sites will be those that are not the normal ones you will find in books but those that perhaps "Locals" (like myself) are more likely to know with some investigation.

What is now the old people's home behind the Drill Hall used to be the Royal Observer Corps' No.2 Group HQ, and the UKWMO Metropolitan Sector HQ. If you check the website link in this cache you will see some great pictures, also search for Nuclear Bunker Horsham and you will find sites and videos of the Nuclear Bunker that connected up to this HQ. The building was opened in 1962 and closed in 1992. The exact location of the bunker entrance hatch I am not sure of, but if you look at pictures on Hidden Horsham it appears to be in a wooded area, they have some great pictures of the bunk beds and inside of the bunker. A new bunker was built in 1984 under the Park North office block opposite Park House, accommodates 22 people and is still operational.
