La Retaia è la montagna dei pratesi. Con i suoi 764 metri domina la città di Prato con vista anche sulle vicine Firenze e Pistoia. Naturalmente meta di gite domenicali dei pratesi, anche quelli con la MTB. La vetta e i crinali sono completamente scoperti (infatti la catena dei monti si chiama Calvana ed e'un gruppo montuoso che si stacca dalla catena appenninica presso Poggio ai Prati e corre verso sud per circa 25 km in direzione della citta' di Prato ) permettendo così panorami ampissimi.
E' questo un poggio che può essere definito il "balcone" della Calvana, visto che da qui lo sguardo spazia su buona parte della pianura fiorentina, pistoiese e pratese, ed è veramente impressionante il numero di costruzioni ed edifici che si possono osservare, una immagine che ha dell'incredibile e uno dei più ampi panorami di cui si possa godere in Toscana, con lo sguardo che spazia , oltre la pianura, sull' Appennino, il Montalbano, il Pratomagno, Il Cimone.
Numerosi sono gli animali che vi pascolano allo stato brado: forse non tutti sanno che su questi monti si trova una razza di bovini autoctona, appunto la razza della Calvana. Della razza bovina della Calvana, un tempo diffusa nell'Appennino Toscano, oggi restano pochi capi allevati fra i monti della Calvana e del Mugello, ad est di Prato
Sul poggio, proprio per questo motivo, è stata innalzata una croce che è divenuta, quindi, uno dei punti di riferimento più importanti di tutta la dorsale, non lontano dalla quale e' la cache.

parcheggiare alle coordinate N 43°54.332 E011°07.328 e poi prendere poco piu' in alto a destra il sentiero che va a Casa Bastone , da li' seguire il gps.
Attenzione in estate a dove mettete le mani, ci possono essere dei serpentelli insidiosi (vipere) usate sempre un bastone mentre cercate la cache.
La Retaia is the mountain of Prato. With its 764 meters above the city of Prato, also seen on the nearby Florence and Pistoia. Calvana cattle breed, a once common Tuscan Apennines, today there are few animals reared in the mountains of the Mugello and Calvana, east of Prato.
On the hill, for this reason, was erected a cross which has become, therefore, one of the most important landmarks of the entire ridge, which is not far from the cache.
