Geocache Description:

Riverbank walk on the edge of Waihi.

One of a few walkways around Waihi being developed by the Waihi Walk Ways Group

Welcome to Waihi Walkways
Our Mission

... is to create a series of linked public walkways around the Waihi and Ohinemuri District, for good health and for appreciation and enjoyment of our wonderful natural environment.

The walkways will provide access to the Ohinemuri River and tributaries. Waihi Walkways is committed to the environmental enhancement of each area - appropriate to its ambience and history; with riparian plantings, river protection and restoration of indigenous biodiversity whenever possible. These walkways will link with existing bush tracks and Department of Conservation walkways and other public land.

Additionally, the social and cultural heritage values and features of each area, as they are identified, will be protected, preserved, interpreted and honoured.

This is our long term contribution to our community and a part of the upsurge of interest in walkways, ecology and history throughout New Zealand.

Riverbank Terrace Walkway

Available to walkers.

This is an easy grade short walk (approx 15 mins) with a delightful rural ambience. Deciduous trees provide a rural park-like experience, with the contrast of a fully vegetated river bank across the Ohinemuri River. We have left the track side as a grassed area to enable a more intimate appreciation of the river. Take your coffee or picnic tea, there is seating, and enjoy the calm influence of the river. Sheep may be present as part of our maintenance regime so please ensure your dog is on a leash at all times.

Entrance is from the bottom of Rosemont Road, or continuation of the walk from Coffey’s if you are walking upstream. Entrance is also from Gilmour Lake, near the statue of the dove at the lake walk close to the main highway
(visit link)

Come and have a short walk and try some of the seat to enjoy the walk.

Can carry on and do the rest of the walk which goes up Black Hill and a few other caches.
