Geocache Description:

[pl] Sladami kolejki Wilanowskiej

[en] The trace of Wilanów narrow gauge railway

[pl] [O budynku i kolejce]

Kolejka wilanowska byla pierwsza podwarszawska waskotorówka. Poczatkowo miala trakcje konna, a letnie wagony przypominaly otwarte wagony tramwajowe. Zatwierdzenie budowy nastapilo w listopadzie 1890 r., zas prace zaczeto w kwietniu 1891 r. Inicjatorami budowy byli: wlasciciel wielu gruntów na Mokotowie Wiktor Magnus, inz. Henryk Huss i Jan Keller. Linia zostala oficjalnie uruchomiona w maju 1892 r. Niebawem kolejka przezyla prawdziwa rewolucje. Mocno wyeksploatowana, drewniana buda zostala rozebrana w 1922 r.

[The building and rail]

Wilanów rail was the first narrow gauge near Warsaw. Initially, she had horse traction, and summer cars reminded of open tram cars. The approval of the construction took place in November 1890, and the works began in April 1891. The initiators of the construction were: the owner of many plots of land in Mokotów, Wiktor Magnus, engineer Henryk Huss and Jan Keller. The line was officially launched in May 1892. Soon the railway underwent a real revolution. Horse traction was changed into steam. Attempts with the steam engine began in August 1894, and already in September steam engines began to run from Warsaw to Wilanów. The station in Wilanów was initially wooden: "a dirty kennel, naturally a restaurant for it, where you could get expensive vodka, sausages, beers and a lot of other things". A heavily exploited, wooden kennel was demolished in 1922.
In its place stood a new building in the style of nationalism of the 1920s, designed by Konstanty S. Jakimowicz. He served the needs of the railway until August 1971, when the line was liquidated. From 1973 to 2016, it housed a post office. In the coming years a renovation of the building is planned and perhaps a change in its function.
