Geocache Description:

Nine-site multi-clue cache located within the 7 Hills of Lynchburg. Many of the locations can be done from a car. Final cache location: good soled hiking or similarly treaded shoes would be helpful.

This is a revision and update of the original Seven Hills cache (GC3D6B) by huggy_d1, re-placed on nearly the 9th anniversary of its original placement in February 2002. This updated cache is dedicated first to Pilot Mike (& JJ) who suggested asking huggy_d1 about restoration of the cache, and second but not least, to huggy_d1 who supported the restoration effort, including allowing the cache container and contents to be re-used.

The cache and tour is mostly as it was before, with a few updates. The previous listing was extensively, shamelessly copied, and then updated. Any errors are mine.

Lynchburg, VA was built on 7 hills. These hills are : College, Federal, Garland, Daniel's, Diamond, Franklin, and White Rock Hills.
If you wish, visit the Visitor's Center, mention you are geocaching and would like to learn more about the Seven Hills of Lynchburg. A streetmap will be MOST handy, so pick one up while you're there.
This geocache will take you to various parts of each of these hills and you will hunt for clues to decipher the final cache location's lat/long, in the form: N 37 AH.ILL W 079 TO.URS

The first 7 hills locations can be done in any order.

{Federal Hill}
Federal, located at/around the coordinates listed above. Go to coordinates listed on this cache. Once you arrive, look around for a sign at a house on a corner. It will have the word "Circa" followed by a 4 digit number starting with 19. Note the numbers _w_x_y_z_. Add "w" & "z" together, and divide the sum of w + z by 2. Save this answer: _______[H].
{Diamond Hill}
Diamond, you will go to an exact address and extract the GPS coordinates. Go to 517 Washington Street. If driving, you can stay in the car if this concerns you. Coordinates are in the form of Nab°cd.efg' and Whi°jk.lmn'. Add "e" to "l" together, and divide the sum of e + l by e. Save this answer: ________[A].
{Franklin Hill}
Franklin, go to the exact coordinates N37°24.349', W079°08.309'. Find the GREEN building's address on Union St. The address is in the form of _w_x_y_z_. Add first 3 digits of address together (w+x+y). Save the answer here: ________[O].
{White Rock Hill}
White Rock, go to the White Rock Head Start Center where you can read the big white signage on the front the building. From near or across from the steps at the entrance by the street, take down the GPS coordinates. The coordinates are in the form of Nab°cd.efg' and W0hi°jk.lmn'.
Subtract 1 from "e" and save the difference here: ________[T].
Use the value of l here: ________ [ S ]
{College Hill}
College, go to N37°24.236', W079°09.106'. On the WEST side of the road (ok, it's more west than east) there is a VA Historical road sign with three separate numbers on it, near the top (you WILL know it's the right sign when you see it!). Write the #s as:
_Q_ _b_
, _c_ _d_
_e_ _f_ _g_ _h_.
Use the following scheme to fill in the coordinates of the next location within College Hill (by far the largest "hill" of the seven).
N 37 2(e+f).(b+c)bf , W 079 0(b+f).(g+h)(b+h)(b+c)
N37° 2__.__ __ __' , W 079° 0 __.__ __ __'.
Go to the coordinates created above. Find out HOW OLD William Brooks was when he died. Subtract 1 from the 1st digit of his age when he died and save that here:
______ [ I ]
{Garland Hill}
Garland, you will possibly want a compass (or a very keen sense of direction), or bearing and distance function of your GPS device. Go to N37°25.080', W079°09.027'. Observe the empty lot on the east side of the road, where the huge house at 220 Madison used to be, before the fire in 2006.

Next, at approx. 180 feet at about 300 degrees from that point is another house. At the main gate there is a plaque. On the plaque is the date in the 1800's this house was built. Save the difference of the 2nd and 3rd digits of the year this house was built here: _____. [R]

Also, count how many letters are in the top line of the plaque, add 1 to the total, and use the last digit here: ___. [L]

{Daniel's Hill}
Daniel's, Last "hill" needed for the final cache location's coordinates.
Go to N37°25.235', W079°08.635'.
Find a plaque with the words "...built circa _ _ _ _ ...".
Save the last digit of the year here : _____ [ U ]
Here we fill in a table as follows from the data saved above: A=___, H=___, I=___, L=___, T=___, O=___, U=___, R=___, S=___
Fill in the coordinates in the form of :
N 37°AH.ILL'---> N 37°__ __.__ __ __' W079°TO.URS'---> W079°__ __.__ __ __'

Final cache location: the cache is well hidden in a camouflaged ammo box near a well-traveled area. Watch out for muggles. Take care when replacing the cache.

Please advise of any discrepancies with the cache instructions or clues. With the level of detail required, some amount of hunting at the final cache location may be required (meaning the final cache coordinates are NOT EXACT but are very close).

[Disclaimer: if you get hurt while hunting for this cache, you did so on your own... pain should not be involved here if hunting wisely]
Thanks and have a great find!
