Mollyjak's Sand And Sarnies Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

mollyjak: Time to say goodbye to this event [:)]

Tony and I would like to thank you all for attending and all the fantastic logs you wrote. We are glad you enjoyed visiting our area and the Kenfig Nature Reserve with the 25 caches there and about and hope we covered caching for all levels from very easy to the slightly more challenging Sands of Time series which is still attracting many cachers. Some of the comments and stories still make me smile from stories of dancing over a stream to being rather shattered when returning to the pub. As long as we gave a bit of a challenge as well as to the cachers who only found the Pub and the cache 50 yds away and sat and enjoyed the food, geochat and of course the beer.

I am glad you all appreciated the free gifts Tony and I bought ( my ebay rating went up considerably LOL) as well as the cache bags, containers, doggy goodie bags and things for the children - all seemed to be happy with them. I hope to find some of the bags out in the wild at some time [:)] I wonder how many adults are using the Welsh flag bags LOL?

Finally I would like to thank the cachers who helped by arranging, picking and setting up, and returning the TARDIS and Dalek - our Swansea friends [:)]

Hope to see you all again at an event sometime next year and be happy

Love
Lilian & Tony - Mollyjak

Geocache Description:

This event is based at the Prince Of Wales Public House, Kenfig - Friday 29th July. It starts 12 noon until 6pm, approximately 2 miles from the M4.

Event Update - 12th July

As many of you are aware Dr Who is regularly filmed in the S Wales area. We have been reliably informed that he is also a geocacher as he has been seen on Kenfig Nature Reserve searching for our caches. He has told Mollyjak when we met him three weeks next Friday last week that he plans on attending our event as he likes Sand and Sarnies. His TARDIS and a full size Dalek will be parked on the car park of the pub during the day (unless he gets a call to go and save a world far away). You might not meet him as he planning on doing the 11 caches which were placed today by Mr MJ.

YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS

Geotees will be setting up a stall on the day for all geocachers to buy their caching goodies. If you require a specific caching item and are attending the event it may be an idea to contact him and put in an order

Finally the Prince of Wales recently had a regular Food Hygiene inspection and were awarded 5 stars – the best you can get.

It will be an opportunity for cachers to get together and chat about caching experiences.

This event is child and dog friendly and water in bowls will be provided for pets.

Food will be available to buy in the Historic Haunted Public House ‘The Prince of Wales’ which was built in the 16th century and was originally the Town Hall.
The event log book will be upstairs (there are external stone steps as well as internal steps) in the Hall.

Within your 'Will Attend' log will you please state:-

1. How many will be eating? - So the landlord has an idea of numbers to cater for. Food is available from 12 to 2.30pm and in the evening.
2. How many children will be attending?
3. How many dogs will be attending?

There will not be an offical TB/ coin area.

Parking will be arranged in a field close to the pub or alternatively you may wish to park at the Nature Reserve and walk to the event - more details to follow.

A chance to cache around the Kenfig National Nature Reserve including Glamorgan’s largest natural lake, Kenfig Pool with spectacular views from Sker beach across Swansea Bay to the Gower. It is one of the finest Wildlife habitats in Wales and one of the last remnants of a huge dune system that once stretched along the coast of Southern Wales from the River Ogmore to the Gower peninsula. The reserve is home to unique wild orchids, as well as insects and wildlife. Kenfig is one of the most important sites in Britain for nature conservation.
From a simple one mile circle to a longer walk to the beautiful Sker beach which is only accessible on foot. The walk can be further extended to include passing Sker House which can justifiably claim to be probably the oldest building in the district that is still in use. Its origins lie in the late 12th century when the first buildings were erected as a grange or farm of Neath Abbey.

I have arranged a pond dipping session with the Kenfig Wardens1.30pm - 2.30pm for anyone who is interested. Please phone 01656 743386 to book a place as numbers are limited - nets and trays will be provided. Currently no charge but this may change if the local Council decide differently.
