Wass, formerly "Byland with Wass" is a village in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire. A short distance from the village lie the ruins of Byland Abbey. Despite the small size of the village (population c.100) there is a pub, The Stapylton Arms, (formerly The Wombwell Arms). The village nestles at the foot of Wass Bank and has beautiful views of the surrounding countyside.
At the stated co-ordinates is bench with a date ABCD and close by is a K6 which after BT removed the payphone was used a home for a defibrillator for a couple of years. The future of the quintessential piece of British village furniture at this location is uncertain as the defibrillator is now on the north wall of the pub.
