Geocache Description:

Craters Tanks called Devils Canyon Pools by non locals is a series of deep holes in Mineral Creek that feeds into the Ray Mine. This will require a four wheel drive with good ground clearance. Cache is a small round orange container.

The hike is difficult and requires at least 4 hours to get in and out.
The hike is 1.2 miles with 2500 foot elevation change.
It also has narrow paths and drop off’s of three to four hundred feet or more. The roads and trails well require stepping on and over lots of rocks.
Goggle Earth calls these Devils Canyon Pools and they are a land mark in Goggle Earth. The Cattle Pond at the start of the trail is easy to see on Goggle Earth.
The road to access the tanks is off of Highway 177 that begins or ends at Superior Az depending which way you are traveling. Just past mile maker 165 if your traveling from Superior is the turn off it is slightly hidden so if you pass it there are places to turn around less than ½ mile away. There is a bob wire fence gate with enough room to park with a trailer to open the gate.
Note:(You can also get into this by following the power lines from Oak Flats off of US 60 east of Superior AZ, This road is very rough).
Off of 177 Follow this road until you get to the power lines and stay right. When you get on top and turn east you can see the cattle pond and the road that leads to it as you go down the hill. 1/2 mile of the old road to the pond is washed out and only accessible by foot. Once you reach the pond then you will always need to stay to the left or upstream. The Pond coordinates are 33.14.924N X 111.02.023. This will get you close to the trail entrance. When looking at the pond from the road it is on the left side at the back of the pond. A point of reference on the trail is 33.15.129 N - 111.01.853 W. The trail can be easy to loose but it's also easy to pick back up.
In the 70’s we use to hike into these tanks and swim. These were name Craters Tanks in the early 1900’s by the Miners and Ranchers who lived in this area., Some how they became known as Devils Canyon Pools. Unknown to most there are more than two. The first tank seems to get wider as it gets deeper. The only way to get into the first tank is to jump into it or use a rope to climb in and out. There are two places to jump that are about 20 to 25 feet and about fifty feet. Going back there after 32 years makes me wonder how I ever Jumped from the high place. When I was a teenager my high school buddies and I use to hike into these pools in the middle of the summer and spend the night.
