This geocache is placed at the North end of Mon Repos Conservation Park. Nearby there are some interesting rock pools to explore at low tide.
Mon Repos supports the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the Eastern Australian mainland and is one of the two largest Loggerhead turtle rookeries in the South Pacific Ocean.
Between mid-November and February adult turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs, and hatchlings make their way back to the ocean late in the season. Nesting turtles are best viewed after dark one hour before to two hours after high tide.
To manage turtle watching at Mon Repos, the Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service has implemented ticketed beach access and constructed a Visitor Centre. Here visitors can see slide shows, films and static displays and talk with the rangers and turtle volunteers. Then, if a mother turtle makes her way up the beach and starts to lay her eggs, or hatchlings emerge, the rangers will take groups of visitors onto the beach to see this natural marvel.
The cache is placed close to a walking & cycling track - no bush-bashing involved. It's a small sistema container but it is well-disguised. Dogs and other pets are not allowed in the park.
