Cache is located off of the Great Northern trail at Mountain Creek ski resort. If there is snow on the ground and the lifts are moving, you will need your skis or snowboard to reach this cache!
Parking is available at Vernon North peak, which houses the customer service and equipment rental areas of the resort. You can also park down the street at Granite if you're familiar with which trails to take to North, or you can park at South if you're going to be on the mountain for a significant amount of time and don't mind taking a shuttle to North.
This is our first winter hide, and also our first that requires special equipment to reach. During ski season, the only way to get to this spot is by taking the gondola or triple chair lift up the mountain which requires a lift ticket or season pass. (During the warmer weather, hikers can pay a small fee, usually about $3, to ride the gondola up to make the hike down.)
Head down the Great Northern trail and stay to the right at every split. Keep your eyes out for a side trail (not designated on a ski trail map) on the right about halfway down the trail and maintain adequate speed to get up the hill into the woods. Moderate skill is required if you want to ride all the way to the cache, however beginners can easily hop out of their bindings and make the short hike if they get stuck. You'll quickly reach a small, fairly clear area. If you haven't already, take your gear off here and hike the rest of the way. Cache is located just slightly off the trail.
Be sure to bring a tall cacher or a good climber for this one...enjoy the powder!
