WSGASouthwestChapter: My apologies to those who have been waiting for this "event that never happened" to move forward. As much as I was looking forward to hosting this worthwhile and eagerly anticipated CITO, numerous "life" events have resulted in this Archive log.

Allyson, the wonderful Volunteer Coordinator I was working with, at Clark County Public Works, has moved on and is no longer working for the CCPW. My youngest daughter had a SECOND brain surgery - I returned from my second trip to Wisconsin - in 3.5 months - yesterday! Additionally, I am in the midst (literally) of moving from Ridgefield, to my new - and, hopefully, permanent! - home in Port Angeles, Washington. WHEW!!

So, given the multitude of circumstances, I am (regretfully) moving the status of this event from temporarily disabled to ARCHIVED. I am sorry.

A note from idajo2, WSGA Southwest Chapter Representative: I will be traveling to Madison, WI to provide post-surgical care for my youngest daughter who underwent (unexpected) brain surgery on May 23rd
If you know of geocachers, who planned to attend the CITO but haven’t yet posted on the cache page, please contact her/him and ask that they watch list the cache page for a rescheduled date.
Additionally, if you would like to CITO at Vancouver Lake Park - on your own - on April 30th - you are more than welcome to do that .. it won’t count as a “found cache” but it will, for sure, generate “good karma” points . . and many thanks!

Please join the Washington State Geocaching Association - Southwest Chapter - for an early spring Cache In Trash Out event at Vancouver Lake Park. Rain or shine, helping prepare the park for a busy summer season will be the goal of the geocachers who are teaming up for some much needed trash clean-up and general spiffing-up in this heavily-used park.

Time: Saturday, April 30, 2011, 9:00am-12pm
Please plan to arrive by 9:00. The Clark County Department of Public Works will provide parking fee waivers for geocachers attending this CITO event; additional information regarding the waivers will be posted as the event date approaches.

Place: 6801 NW Lower River Road, Vancouver, WA
From the main entrance, turn toward the left - drive around the roundabout into the parking area. The "base of operations" will be located in the picnic area between the parking lot and the water. Look for the WSGA - Southwest Chapter - banner and the CITO Flag!

Vancouver Lake Park is a 234-acre park that stretches for 2.5 miles along Vancouver Lake. Picnicking, play equipment, sand volleyball, and more, are available at this popular lakeside park. Swimming is allowed, in a designated area, at Vancouver Lake Park, (NO lifeguards are on duty) and the lake is well-suited for beginning windsurfing and canoeing enthusiasts. Both Vancouver Lake Park, and it's sister park, Frenchman's Bar Park, offer spectacular views of the surrounding landscape ~ including the Columbia River, Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams and Mt. St. Helens ~ wildlife, and migratory waterfowl. The 2.5-mile, 12-foot wide, paved Frenchman’s Bar Trail connects the two parks

The primary goals of this event are:

Safety: Nobody likes getting hurt. Come prepared, stay aware, and please don't do anything you would be hard-pressed to explain at an emergency room.

Fun: This isn't just a park clean-up, it's a geocaching event!

Work: This isn't just a geocaching event, it's a park clean-up!

Preparedness:

> Heavy-duty trash bags and vinyl gloves will be provided by the Clark County Department of Public Works - Parks & Grounds Section
> Some snacks and water will be provided; you're welcome to bring your bring your coffee, tea, juice or soft drink. If you have a favorite breakfast/brunch fingerfood you'd like to share, we hope you'll bring it along! Geocachers are "enthusiastic" (and appreciative!) taste-testers!
> You'll want to wear appropriate clothing and bring anything you think will make clean-up easier, safer, or more fun.
> Some things you might want to consider:
- Heavy shoes or boots
- Long pants
- Hat
- Leather gloves
- Pokeysticks/grabbers
- Sunscreen (wishful thinking!)
- Bug repellent
- Hand sanitizer
- Sunglasses (what a concept!)

To thank you for your efforts, your name will be entered into a raffle to be held at 11:45. If you donate a raffle item you'll receive an additional raffle ticket!

Notes:

PARENTS: CITO events are, often, not young child-friendly. Broken glass, fish hooks, water hazards, contaminated objects, nails, rusty metal, insects, noxious plants, splintered wood, etc. may be encountered. Older children, closely supervised by a parent, often benefit from the environmental responsibility/community service aspect of a CITO event.
