Another in a series of caches dedicated to my all time favorite duo, Simon & Garfunkel. If you take time to read the description, you'll learn a little bit about these amazing guys, their sometimes rocky relationship and their own cache of chart topping music.Their lyrics are poetic, profound, sometimes fun and sometimes angry in a gentle way.
Simon & Garfunkel, friends since their elementary school days, started performing together in their junior year of high school. After some minor success as the duo Tom & Jerry and a first recording "Hey, Schoolgirl" that sold 100,000 copies they went on to college; Paul enrolled at Queens College and Art at Columbia University. After graduation they became part of the Greenwich Village folk music scene and the two started performing and recording once again.
AT THE ZOO was first released as a single in 1967 and tells the story of one of Paul's visits to the Central Park Zoo. The lyrics are fun but also somewhat cynical about humans. It reached #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and would later be included on their "Bookends" album released in 1968. So many of their recordings are great to sing along with and this one was always one of my favorites.
Someone told me it's all happening at the zoo.
I do believe it, I do believe it's true.
It's a light and tumble journey from the East Side to the park,
just a fine and fancy ramble to the zoo.
But you can take a crosstown bus if it's raining or it's cold,
and the animals will love it if you do.
The monkeys stand for honesty.
Giraffes are insincere and
the elephants are kindly but they're dumb.
Orangutans are skeptical of changes in their cages and
the Zookeeper is very fond of rum.
Zebras are reactionaries.
Antelopes are missionaries.
Pigeons plot in secrecy and
hamsters turn on frequently.
What a gas!
Well, I couldn't place this one right at the zoo but it's very near a place where you can buy food and stuff for your own personal zoo. It's a high muggle area at times - I had to make my placement dash quickly to avoid the comings and goings of the local zookeepers.
FTF gets one of Cody's Pathtags. He's the head honcho at my zoo.
Congratulations to Team Buckley for FTF
